Why is the FLC Club Hockey Team Not a Varsity Sport?

Opinion by Nic Hassinger, Graphic by Julia Volzke

They have a crazy dedicated fan base who is willing to pay to get into the games, they have a bunch of guys who are willing to give up sleep to make it to 6 a.m. practices and they have earned a lot of recognition around the school. Because of their status as a club team they are not reaching their full potential. Even without scholarships there are students who have applied or transferred to Fort Lewis College because they wanted to play on our hockey team. Can you imagine what it would be like if we could provide scholarships for those who wanted to play hockey? The already great team would be incredible.

As the month of October is now gone, the Fort Lewis College campus looks back at Youth Justice Month, a month of social awareness and activism.
