The Skyhawks men’s basketball team increased their home game winning streak to 30 over the weekend by defeating Western State (5-18) and Colorado Mesa (7-18).

At Friday night’s game versus Western State the Skyhawks won 95-70, and at Saturday night’s game they won 90-71.

Rasmus Bach had a big weekend as he dropped 24 points on Friday and 18 on Saturday. Joshua Blaylock scored 16 and 18, respectively.  Brandon Wilson scored 15 Friday night, and had a career high 20 points on Saturday.

Coach Bob Pietrack was particularly enthusiastic about how Wilson was playing.

“When he plays good, the team is tough to beat,” Pietrack said.

The team had a good defensive energy and made things hard for both teams, Pietrack said .

“The defensive energy was where it needs to be,” Pietrack said.

The improvements the team made were in rebounds, Pietrack said. The Skyhawks out-rebounded WSU by nine and CMU by two.

The next game for the Skyhawks is Colorado Mines (20-4, 15-3), a big game according to Pietrack.

“Mines is a championship program, they got championship players, coaches, and resources and we’re going to have a game that is championship worthy,” Pietrack said.

The game will be two of the better teams in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II, Pietrack said.
