The Nightmare Before Christmas

This holiday season classic is arguably the best Christmas movie of all time, but definitely the best one on Netflix. Tim Burton’s signature creepy style mitigates the over-the-top holiday spirit usually present in Christmas movies. If you’re at home over break hanging out with your quiet cousin who shops solely at Hot Topic, this movie may be the only common ground you find!

Dear White People

This Netflix Original addresses a lot of the current issues faced by many African American college students like police brutality and interracial dating.  These issues are often left unsaid in a small, mostly white, mountain community like Durango, but the show succeeds in delivering a strong message of understanding and unity without sounding preachy, and also makes the message relatable to most college students. Every episode of the show is from a different character’s perspective, addressing the sorts of discrimination faced by each; and there is even an episode featuring a Caucasian character who is trying to navigate the waters of an interracial relationship.

Zombeavers

This is by far, the best terrible “horror” film on Netflix. This “B”-rated movie is made with very low production quality, and the plotline is heinous, but it’s still worth watching if not only for the many, many, many “beaver” jokes involved. This movie will be funnier than any comedy available on Netflix, and enhanced even moreso by the use of subtitles. Example subtitle: “Zombeaver bear SNARLS”
