A Series of Unfortunate Events (Season 2)

The second installment of this series is just as sardonic and hilarious as the first. What really impresses me about this series is how effectively the directors maintain the original author’s voice. If you were a nerdy little kid like me (who made few friends but read A LOT of books) this show will be a nostalgic trip back to lonely days in the lunchroom escaped only through the literary prowess and sarcastic humor of Lemony Snicket (or whoever actually wrote the book, since that’s a pseudonym). If you were one of the populars kids as a child and didn’t read this book, first off you’re the worst. Second off, it’s worth watching for all of the hilarious outfits Neil Patrick Harris wears while acting as Count Olaf.

American Vandal

This Netflix original series is a mockumentary of sorts, focusing on the vandalization of a high school staff parking lot. The Netflix summary really takes the cake though: “Truth. Justice. Dicks. A student filmmaker seeks the naked truth in a school parking lot defiled by painted penises.” This is only made even more hilarious for those of us who were on the FLC campus two years ago when an unknown vigilante adorned many buildings and vehicles on campus with suspiciously phallic symbols.

The Truman Show

This 1998 classic movie was recently added to Netflix. It could be solely worth watching because young Jim Carrey is in it, and he plays a somewhat serious role. But it is also a total mind bender and without revealing too much it really takes the term “reality television” to a whole other level.
