The Fort Lewis men’s soccer team defeated the Adam’s State Grizzlies in the Skyhawks final home game of the season at Dirks Field Wednesday afternoon 2-1.

The first goal of the match was scored by FLC freshman defender Jean Meibohm in the 27th minute on a free kick.  Teammate and midfielder Max Fuentes Carrera lobbed the ball over defenders and Meibohm shot it into the back of the net.

Less than two-minutes into the second half, FLC junior midfielder, Nicolas Perez, brought the Skyhawks’ lead to 2-0 with a laser from well outside of the 18-yard box. Perez’s shot bounced off of the top of the crossbar and into the goal.

ASU was able to make a response to that by scoring in the 68th minute. Junior defenseman Marcus Wilson netted his shot from inside the box.

Both teams played aggressively. FLC had 13 fouls all together while ASU had eight in this choppy matchup. The referee, Santos Toquinto, did not need to send anyone off but was forced to stop play a number of times.

After this win, FLC’s record improves to 8-5-4 overall and 8-3-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference moving them into third place in the conference.

In front of FLC is Colorado School of Mines, 13-3 overall and 11-1 in the RMAC, as well as, Colorado Mesa, 13-2-1 overall and 9-2-1 in the RMAC.

Colorado Mesa, Colorado School of Mines, and FLC have clinched spots in the RMAC tournament, which will begin next week.

The Skyhawks’ next game is Friday, October 27th in Rapid City, South Dakota, where FLC will play South Dakota School of Mines and Technology at 2pm.
