Parkerson attended the American Academy of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago to pursue sculpting, mainly specializing in animals and then later focusing on horses.The horses’ placement by the train station gives them lots of attention and pictures from both tourists and locals, and are climbed on by children after the train ride, according to Durango Arts Center.

Donated by Phyliss Alden, this bronze sculpture weighing 900 pounds was created by former ballet teacher and dancer, Elizabeth MacQueen.
MacQueen began working as a sculptor in 1970, working with models from dance schools across many different countries, said the Durango Arts Center.Some of the dance schools she worked with were in Paris, France and Pietrasanta, Italy, said the Durango Arts Center. The sculpture is modeled after world-renowned ballet dancer Jorge Donn when MacQueen was working with the Ballet du XXieme Siècle in Brussels. The Argentinian dancer is posed in mid-air in a ‘grande jete’ meaning ‘big leap,’ according to Durango Arts Center.
