Second ranked team in the nation, the Lindenwood University’s women’s lacrosse in Saint Charles, Missouri, proved why they are ranked that high in their dominant win over the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks, 20-4.

FLC came into this game with momentum after a tough 10-9 overtime win over CSU-Pueblo a week ago. However, Lindenwood came into this game 4-0 off a dominant victory over Colorado Mesa University Tuesday 19-7.

The game this evening was a dominant effort by the Lindenwood Lions. From the very outset the Lions were the aggressor and had the Skyhawks on their heels.

The game was tied 1-1 after three minutes and had the look of a competitive matchup. The Lions then went on a stretch in which they had 13 straight unanswered goals to end the first half.

The Skyhawks were outshot 24-8 and were outdone in the draw control category 12-4 in the first half.

LU looked to continue the onslaught in the second half by adding one more goal early on and extending its run to 14 straight points.

The Skyhawks looked to get a rally going and finally broke the run of LU with two goals by Ryann Pierce and Delaney Benson but it seemed to be too little too late for FLC.

When the game ended, the final score was an astounding 20-4. LU outshot FLC 34-17, 25-11 shots on goal. LU also won the draw control matchup 18-8 and had more free position shots with four compared to FLC’s one.

“Anytime you’re playing a ranked team it’s going to be a challenge and they are the number two ranked team in the country,” FLC head coach Julie Decker said after the game. “So I think that we definitely fought hard the whole game.”

The Skyhawks were overmatched in this game but they had their fair share of opportunities to make this one closer, Decker said. Moving onto the next few games the Skyhawks must find a way to finish opportunities to score.

Skyhawk midfielder Ryann Pierce was one of the big positives in this game for the Skyhawks though. The sophomore had two goals in the second half and was really starting to spark the team offensively in the second half after being a little to passive in the first, Decker said.

Some comments made by Lindenwood players on the field sparked Pierce’s aggression in the second half, Pierce said.

“Right now I think our team is really angry so we are going to let it loose on Saturday,” Pierce said.

The Skyhawks will have another home game on Saturday afternoon against Oklahoma Baptist University at 1:00 p.m.
